This year your child will expand their writing skills through creativity and research. They will develop these skills by implementing the 6+1 traits of writing, daily writing exercises, journaling, writing letters to pen pals, creative writing assignments, and research projects.

I will grade each writing assignment using a rubric that covers all 6 traits of writing.  The class will discuss, practice and apply each individual trait to their writing.  I will only grade your child's piece on the trait we are discussing.    By the end of the school year your child will be graded on every trait. 

Your child will be working out of a spelling book this year.  The program is designed to not only enhance spelling skills, but reading, writing, and problem solving.  If you would like to view the type of work your child will be doing, please visit the following website:

Spelling tests will be every Thursday.

We will work on spelling every Tuesday, however, if your child does not finish his/her work, they will be expected to take it home and finish by Thursday.

I will post the new spelling list every Friday. Also, the spelling lists are available through the Spelling Connections website along with different games to go with the words.
