Bluebells, Paintbrush, Goldenrod, Daisy, Groundsel, Geranium, Chickweed, Fir, and Pine .

Do you know what these are? No, they are not celebrity baby names!  They are names of plants.

Don't be alarmed if your child comes home with a green thumb in the next few weeks!  Starting on September 10 our classroom will become a gardner's dream!  For three weeks we will be discussing, planting, observing, dissecting, and reading about the plant world.  During this unit, we will go out into nature (down to the creek) to witness where plants grow, observe what types of plants grow where, dicuss seed travel, and look at plants under a microscope.  We will also plant our own garden in the classroom. We will be collecting data in a plant journal, making predictions about plant growth, and writing our observations. To end the unit, we will take a tour of a real garden at Hudson Gardens.

On Tuesday, Septemeber 16, our class took a trip to the pond in search of seeds.  When we returned to the classroom, the students had the opportunity to examine their seeds under a digital microscope and then catergorize them into the different types of seeds they collected.  On Wednesday, we planted!
