Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome to K/1. What wonderful children you have!!! I would like to take is opportunity to introduce myself and share with you my high expectations for this class. I also hope that you are able to attend Back to School Night (August 26th), where we can meet personally and talk in more detail.
This is my second year at Sandburg Elementary and I am very excited to be working with the dedicated staff and incredible families found here. I believe that we are in a partnership to guide your child to become the best he or she can be. I would like to keep the lines of communication open between home and school because this can help me best meet the needs of your child. You will be receiving a weekly newsletter with the highlights of the week, upcoming events and any special needs we may have. If you have any questions or concerns, I may be reached by phone or email. Please note that during the day I am working with your children, so if it is important and can not wait until the end of the day, please call the office and leave a message. I will return calls and emails at the end of the day and will try to respond within 24 hours. I check emails through out the day and is the easiest way to reach me. I may be reached at:
In our classroom we will strive for cooperation and achievement. There is no ceiling of achievement in our classroom. Every child will be challenged and guided to reach his or her full potential and together, with hard work, we will achieve that. Students may not bring home homework every night; however, they will always be expected to read at least 15 minutes a night. We will discuss in more detail the schedule and expectation, at Back to School Night.
I am very excited for the coming year. I know it will be a great year, and I look forward to working with you and your child.
Sincerely,
Ellen Smith
