Dear Parents:
Welcome to first grade! What wonderful children you have!! August is all about new beginnings, building relationships, establishing an environment where each individual is valued, as well as creating an atmosphere where learning is a wondrous adventure. It is also an opportunity for me to discover each child as a reader, writer, and a learner. I am looking forward to an amazing year!
On Tuesday, August 26th is Sandburg’s Back to School Night. I invite all of you to please come! I look forward to meeting all of you, explaining our first grade curriculum and answering any questions you may have about our program.
At the top of this note is your child’s school identification number. Please help your child to memorize this number, especially if he/she buys hot lunch. Your child will need to repeat this number to the cashier.
Also, for the new parents, a folder with your child’s name on it will come home every Friday and needs to be returned by the following Monday. Most communication will come home via this folder.
Yes, water bottles are allowed in the classroom if they have a spout that can easily be closed when not in use.
Please send a nutritious snack that does not contain sugar, will not spill, or create messy fingers. Snack time will be in the afternoon to help students get through that last part of the day – maybe even hold them off until dinner.
In the Friday folder you will find order forms for Scholastic. There are many wonderful books at great prices. If ordering, please return the order form(s) with a check made out to Scholastic by Tuesday, September 2nd.
