Last weekend, the University of Denver honored some of our students who took the Explore Test this year. A number of them received High Honors and some Highest Honors. Due to privacy restraints, we do not have a list of everyone who was honored, but we do know that Josh A., Trent B., Richard E., Amanda E., Abby H., and Robin K. were among those honored, as well as a former student of Sandburg, Ian T.

In addition, two of our students earned special distinction. Trent B. earned the highest Science score in Colorado for 5th graders. Abby H. earned the highest English score in Colorado for 4th graders.

Congratulations to all who were honored at the Rocky Mountain Talent Search Award Ceremony at University of Denver on Saturday, May 9, 2009.

Sandburg's 1st & 2nd graders champion literacy by reading to preschoolers as "book buddies" on a weekly basis. In doing so, Sandburg earns bonus points from the Campbell's Labels for Education program. Thank you to parent Sara Albee for submitting the paperwork to earn points for our school; and thanks to all the students who make learning fun at Sandburg!

 Sandburg Spirit SingersMinimize

75 Sandburg students make up the Sandburg Spirit Singers. They have been practicing once a week during the spring semester and ended the year with a fantastic performance on Tuesday night. The singers were joined by guitar and band players from Lenski. Some of the choir's favorite songs were "All Jazzed Up" and "I Like to Sing Scat."

The Sandburg Spirit Singers performed the National Anthem at the Rapids game on Saturday night, May 2, 2009. The kids were awesome. It was very rainy, and very cold, but their energy and spirits were high.

 Sandburg's ReadersMinimize

On Friday, April 3rd, 195 Sandburg students gathered in the library to celebrate reading! These students read a book over Spring Break and then wrote a “scoop” about the book, sharing their favorite part or character and what surprised them about the story. Mrs. Tejan enjoyed reading the students’ responses! For the “scoop”, Mrs. Tejan, Mrs. Mosley and library volunteers gave each student a “scoop” of ice cream with toppings!

Thank you to Sara Albee for organizing the party. The yummy ice cream and toppings were donated by the King Soopers stores on Dry Creek and at Arapahoe Road and Holly. Rachel Wikowsky, Lara Kroha, and Alissa Graham helped with the scooping! Mrs. Fincham loaned us some fun music to listen to as we enjoyed our treats. Congratulations to all our Sandburg readers! Hope you enjoyed your “Scoop for a Scoop!”

 Listen Up!Minimize

Sandburg Elementary has recently assembled a digital recording studio! This setup, including microphones, digital keyboard, mixer and software, will enable our students to use their creative skills in new ways. In addition to recording live instruments such as guitar, trumpet, violin and more, students will be able to use loops to create new songs, add sound effects to their presentations, or soundtracks for videos created in the video production lab. Currently in the testing stage, the studio should be available for student use sometime in February.
