Newton IB Program 2010-2011
Dear Parents, Students and Newton Community,

As you probably know, due to budget cuts in LPS, Newton will no longer be able to fund and deliver the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program as it currently exists; however, with that being said, Newton will continue to adhere to the ideals and philosophies of the program and the quality educational best practices it emphasizes.
Newton’s focus on inquiry based educational opportunities for students will continue. We will continue to develop students who inquire, seek knowledge, care about their community and strive for intercultural understanding and respect.
Our focus will continue to be on holistic and intercultural learning where all learning has real world application, connectedness between subjects, and meaning. We will continue to develop programs that challenge students and their thinking while also involving them in rigorous assessment. Students at Newton will be encouraged continue as life-long learners, to be active in their learning goals, and be compassionate in their interactions with others.
Newton will continue to focus on rigorous learning standards and assessment. We will continue to use a wide variety of assessment tools in order to best meet the learning needs of all students. Students will continue to share their knowledge and their understanding of the world around them with their peers in complex ways. It is important for us to continue to emphasize the ability of every student to be able to communicate effectively in our changing world.
Thank you for your support in the changes we must make and we thank you for your support in our efforts to continue providing the highest quality educational experiences for all students attending Newton Middle School.

Respectfully,
James O’Tremba,
Pricipal, Newton Middle School
